How do you unload your timeshare?

We bought a timeshare deal in Orlando (Spring 08) through Hilton Grand Vacations, I am thinking we made a mistake. If one wants to get rid of a timeshare deal, how do you do it?

  1. Yeah, you made a mistake. You can try to sell it on Craigslist or back to the sellers, but you're gonna get financially killed on it.
  2. Go to EBAY - that seems where everyone sells theirs. You might have to sell it for $1, but you have to disclose the membership, annual, and maintenance fees. If I wanted a timeshare that's where I would go for the cheapest rates without having to pay a middle man. I'm currently looking for one on St. Charles Street for Mardi Gras. Also try timeshares.com - but then again you'll have to pay huge amounts just to sell. At least it will be out of your hands. Never do anything on impulse again. Okie dokie? I considered a time share once. It came out to 1,500 / week. Heck, I could stay at a nice hotel for that, and at different places. .
  3. Try this: http://www.timeshareadventures.com/ But expect to take a bath. You'll be lucky to get 50% of what you paid for it. You've learned a hard lesson in a very expensive manner. Sorry. Time shares are amongst the worst deals on the planet. Here's a test you should do any time you want to consider such a bad investment. If you buy a 1 week time share, multiply the cost by 52 and decide if the property you are buying is worth that much. If not (very likely) run away.
  4. You can donate it though the website below. E-Bay works sometimes. There is essentially no way to recover what you paid for it.
  5. If there is a mail box or a community bulletin board at your home resort, you can put a “For sale” sign. This will pressure the developer specially if they sell it for $20,000 USD and you offer it for $5,000. Sometimes on the fine print of some sale agreements says that the developer has the first right to buy if your place is ever sold. I have heard of developers paying the money (as long as is not too much) just to take the sign out. To resale or rent a timeshare is a hard task, the basic rule is not to pay money up-front, don’t be another victim of a scam. Unfortunately over 50% of people that really need to sell their timeshare falls for this resale scams where they charge money upfront and less than 10% of them use their only real option which is to post it or offer it trough free advertising options as much, and as many sites as they can (it is ok to pay a few dollars to post in a great place but no more that $20 to $30). Timeshares do not have resale value and in most situations you would take a loss in what you paid for, as they resale for less than $2000 USD. There are some free classified ads where you can start posting: http://timeshareownerscommunity.com/ http://craigslist.com http://ebay.com http://recycler.com/ http://usfreeads.com/ http://www.inetgiant.com/
