Planning a holiday to the Maldive Islands?

I am trying to plan a holiday some time next year in the Maldives!! I had a few questions for anyone who maybe has any experiences. Firstly .. when would be the best time to go.. we want it to be hot and not in rainy season but it preferably would have to be in a school holiday?? Also .. does anybody know of any good hotels or villas that can be rented?? (money isn't really an object at all) We also don't have a clue where abouts in the maldives we want to go as there are over 1000 different isalnds .... we would love somewhere quite desolate and beautiful .. white sandy beaches and all that .... but also somewhere relatively close by to some commercial places aswell like shops?? (teenage daughter) we would also need some place that is suitable for younger kids aswell and where there are all the water sports and other activities someplace romantic aswell .. for mum and dad!! I would love for a spa too!! I am not sure if a place like this even exists!! .. but if anyone knows of any other places (anywhere in the world) that would suit our family better and still has the same beauty, your advice would be much appreciated xxx Thanx

  1. My sister and her husband went this past January for a week--they absolutely loved it. They stayed at the W hotel and said it was absolutely amazing--the pictures proved it as well. They stayed on the island of Fesdu. Have an amazing time!
  2. Hi - I used to live in the Maldives. High Season for the Maldives is November through to April. The low season though, whilst may have some rainfall, it is not as drastic as say the Caribbean in low season. When you go to the Maldives, you pay for the room with accommodation, so not rent as such.... Whilst there are over 1200 islands, only about 100 are resort islands for tourists. The Maldives is not really a commercial destination - Male is the capital island and whilst they have some touristy type shops pretty much everything is imported. The resort island you stay on, will have a small gift shop, and perhaps a jewellery shop. Most of the islands offer some form of water sports, but not too many offer motorised sports.... what is included and what is payable will depend on the board basis you select, and also the island, as many islands have their own inclusions/exclusions. Again, most islands have spa treatments, generally open about 10am through until about 7-8pm in the evening. I am not sure from your information if perhaps the Maldives is for you - I think you are looking to go somewhere a little more commericialised. If you have any further questions, or would like further information, then do feel free to contact me.
