Marquis Villas Resort

Where can I find a resort that offers private villas?

Looking for a tropical vacation spot that is rather small and offers its own villas. My husband and I don't like crowds or large resorts. Something small, private, on the beach... Any ideas? 10 points to whoever has the best vaca spot picked out...

  3. How about? Round Hill Hotel & Villas Over $350, Montego Bay A favorite of celebrities thanks to its private and elegant villas, this peaceful resort 8 mi (13 km) west of MoBay also offers 36 traditional hotel rooms in the Pineapple House. In 2004, the hotel rooms were redecorated in a refined Ralph Lauren style -- done by the designer himself, who owns one of the 27 villas that dot the resort's 98 acres. Each villa includes a personal maid and a cook to make your breakfast, and most have private pools. It's a fairly quiet place, with a small beach and limited dining options, but most guests return again and again because of the personal service and excellent management. www.roundhilljamaica.com. 36 rooms, 27 villas. In-room: refrigerator. In-hotel: restaurant, room service, bar, tennis courts, pool, gym, spa, beachfront, diving, water sports, concierge. Goldeneye Over $350, Ocho Rios Whether you're a James Bond buff or just a fan of luxury getaways, this exclusive address 20 minutes east of Ocho Rios holds special appeal. Once the home of Bond author Ian Fleming, the estate is now one of the unique Island Outpost properties. The resort consists of Fleming's home, with three bedrooms and three outdoor baths, as well as a media room, kitchen, and its own private pool and beach. Also on the 15-acre property, four villas are tucked into the lush gardens, each with outdoor showers and lots of privacy. www.islandoutpost.com. 1 house, 4 villas. In-hotel: restaurant, tennis court, pool, beachfront, water sports. Goblin Hill Villas at San San $80 to $250, Port Antonio This lush 12-acre estate atop a hill overlooking San San Bay is best suited for travelers looking for a home-away-from-home atmosphere, not a bustling resort. Each attractively appointed villa comes with its own dramatic view, plus a staff member to do the grocery shopping, cleaning, and cooking for you. Villas come equipped with cable TV, ceiling fans (with a/c in the bedrooms only), and tropical furnishings; it's sometimes possible to rent the bedroom of one of the two-bedroom villas for a lower per-night cost. The beach is a 10-minute walk away. Excellent car-rental packages are available. www.goblinhill.com. 28 1- and 2-bedroom villas. In-room: no phone, kitchen. In-hotel: bar, tennis courts, pool, beachfront. Sunset Resort &Villas $80 to $350, Treasure Beach This is the place to relax in a little piece of heaven! It is in the heart of secluded Treasure Beach on the South Coast of Jamaica. Sunset Resort and Villas is a 14 bedroom Resort that sits on 5 1/2 acres of beachfront with three charming Villas. Next door to Jake's, this resort lacks the style of its attention-getting neighbor, but it still offers a friendly getaway that's lovingly owner-managed. Rooms are unique and oversize, although some of the decor strikes us as a bit too fussy and frilly. The owners are happy to advise guests about local fun and activities. The open-air restaurant serves beside a large, Astroturf-covered pool area. www.sunsetresort.com. In-hotel: restaurant, pool, beachfront, minibar. Trident Villas & Hotel Jamaica $150 to $350, Port Antonio This slightly dated hotel maintains the "old Caribbean" atmosphere, complete with afternoon tea and antique furnishings seen at a dwindling number of resorts these days, a style some will favor and others may consider stuffy. You can have breakfast served on your private patio and watch peacocks strut the manicured lawns. Many of the pastel and floral rooms feature turrets and bay windows, as well as balconies or verandahs; however, they do not have TVs or clocks, and only some rooms have air-conditioning. www.tridentvillas.netfirms.com. 8 rooms, 1 suite, 14 villas. In-room: no a/c (some), safe, no TV. In-hotel: restaurant, bar, tennis courts, pool, beachfront, water sports, concierge, laundry service, minibar.
